The Cyprus Dietetic and Nutrition Association (CyDA) is the professional association for dietitians in Cyprus. It is an organization of food and nutrition professionals. CyDA provides locally and internationally-focused members and other interested professionals a prospect to create professional contacts, acquire continuing education and reinforce current knowledge in dietetics and nutrition. CyDA was established in 1999, it is a member of EFAD and ICDA an it maintains close ties with international associations. CyDA is enthusiastic and dedicated to improving the Cyprus health and nutrition awareness and advancing the profession of dietetics through research, education and advocacy. The Cyprus Dietetic and Nutrition Association recognizes and promotes the most current research and studies of the science of Nutrition / Dietetics done all over the word with emphasis in human health. The different nations are concerned with contemporary medical, environmental, socioeconomic, biological, community, and cultural issues that influence directly or indirectly the people’s nutritional status and overall health. Therefore, the global effort of the international and local health community to improve human’s well being, the need of exchange of the most updated nutritional/ dietetic ideas among the health professionals led us to this educational event. Good nutrition is important for everyone. Healthful diets help children grow, develop, and do well in school. They enable people of all ages to work productively and feel their best. What people eat can also help reduce the risk for chronic diseases, such as heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes, stroke, and osteoporosis, which are leading causes of death and disability among people. Finally, eating right can reduce the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood cholesterol, which increase the risk of disease. Proper nutrition means getting both enough calories and the proper nutrients. Imbalance body weight is a risk factor for many diseases, like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Let us use the knowledge of the registered dietitians to prevent this!
